Environmental Assessment of Giant Freshwater Prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii Farming through Life Cycle Assessment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The giant freshwater prawn (GFP), Macrobrachium rosenbergii has emerged as a significant crustacean in global aquaculture. A cradle-to-farm Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was used to assess the potential environmental impacts of GFP Malaysia. four main iterative farming phases involved were pond preparation, stocking, farming, and harvesting. impact categories chosen warming, terrestrial ecotoxicity, acidification, eutrophication, human non-carcinogenic toxicity, carcinogenic activity, water consumption. software SimaPro 9.3.0.3 for analysis, with background data from database Ecoinvent 3.0. ReCiPe 2016 Midpoint (H) V1.06/World (2010). Among other categories, stocking harvesting contributed toxicity values 33.33%, followed by (33.31%). Another category, ecotoxicity also produces same pattern process, still generating highest value 33.34%, (33.30%). Apart identified capital items that require consideration future waste management aquaculture, this LCA study found M. generates low environment, however, could inspire further research on perspectives sustainability.

Shelf life of giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) under different storage conditions
The effect of formalin on the organoleptic parameters, biochemical composition and storage quality of iced and frozen stored giant freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) was investigated. The organoleptic characters such as appearance, textural condition, colour, odour of both formalin added and non-added prawns were evaluated. The quality of non-added prawns was judged good up to first ...

Aeromonas infections are becoming a major risk factor in commercial aquaculture and it has been reported that a wide variety of fish and shellfish species are susceptible to this infection. In this study, 3 isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila were isolated from giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) cultured in Kuala Pilah Simbilan Nigri in East Malaysia. متن کاملStarvation Promotes Autophagy-Associated Maturation of the Ovary in the Giant Freshwater Prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii
Limitation of food availability (starvation) is known to influence the reproductive ability of animals. Autophagy is a lysosomal driven degradation process that protects the cell under metabolic stress conditions, such as during nutrient shortage. Whether, and how starvation-induced autophagy impacts on the maturation and function of reproductive organs in animals are still open questions. In t...
متن کاملMicrosatellite DNA Analysis of Giant Freshwater Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) from India
Giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), a commercially important crustacean species, is widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific region. Genetic diversity of this species from five different rivers (Krishna, Mahanadi, Hooghly, Narmada and Kalu) of India was investigated using 5 polymorphic microsatellite loci. The number of alleles across loci varied from 4 to 9. The mean expected...
